The Vietnam war started 1 of November 1955 and ended in 1975. The war started because of an conflict between the North- and the South Vietnam. North Vietnam wanted to take over south Vietnam under their Communistic leading. It started as a rebellion against the Diem.Then it became an civil war out of it. The U.S feared the domino effect would lead to a spread of communism throughout Southeast Asia. The war lead to a loss of approximately 5 million peoples dead and wounded, of which 3 million civilians.
Two sides
China and the Soviet Union gaves massive support to the North-Vietnam. On the other side, there was Australia and the U.S that protected South-Vietnam. On February 1969 the parts met in Paris, for peace negotiations, that did not work out. A second meting was in 1973, and they came to an agreement. The U.S brought home their troops shortly after. After a short time, the North-and South Vietnam started struggling again. It was the first time U.S lost a war.
